There are times in my life when I become what I like to call “wrapped too tight”. You see, I love the adrenaline rush I get at work when things are clicking right along, but that rush can turn into overload so easily. Like it has been lately. Whew. So I have come to the conclusion that what I need is to Loosen. Up.A large part of my loosening up incorporates this newly re-found love of writing. It certainly relaxes me. It also gives me the creative outlet I completely lack in the ER. There are very few things I want to get out of bed for, but I’ll get up to write. And a really cool bonus of writing is I don’t even have to get out of bed to do it, if I don’t want. Now that’s my kind of multitasking!
I have a contest I’m entering, that’s also part of the loosening up plan. Although it doesn’t, at the surface, seem like a contest one might enter while unwinding, just hear me out:
I heard about this 72 hour novel writing contest. So I brainstormed with my favorite stormtrooper and came up with a really solid idea for a writable story in that timeframe. I’m working out character portraits now. And I am pretty excited about it. Especially since I finally found my schedule and confirmed that I am, in fact, scheduled off Labor Day Weekend. Sept 5, 6, and 7th I will be writing my tushie off!
So, no, it really sounds like anything BUT a relaxing Labor Day Weekend, I realize that.
However, I need a project to do so I can motivate myself to write. I guess it’s an exercise in loosening up my writing hand :) so to speak.
I have a kitschy idea for some stuff I plan to work on next. Actually, I have a lot of short-ish projects planned because my memory and attention span both work best when set on “short-term”.In summary, the benefits of writing are several and varied:
- it loosens up my ten upper phalanges.
- it takes the edge off.
- it gets the creative juices flowing.
P.S. Apparently, creative juice is like WD-40 for my tensions!
P.P.S. Ten points to whoever knows what phalanges are without wikipedia or otherwise searching :)
P.P.P.S. Kudos if you are one of the few who understand what "Be Et" means.

do you really think you could write your "Tushy" off???
I love your use of language and made up words. It is always nice to read your blogs!
Will you be posting your 72 hour story?
The many fans of my tushy would be very sad if that happened...
I may post passages. Hadn't thought of it, but that's a good idea. Thanks!
